The Floppy Drawbot project

September 8, 2011

Continuing with the tinkering for Full Circle Arts, Stuart has been looking at some new projects that we will be delivering in workshops early next year. We want to introduce more of you to the world of hardware hacking, modifying old electronics into new mechanical gizmos and learning new skills.

Stuart went down to Bristol to see the hackspace there and meet up with fellow tinkerer Matthew Venn [ http://www.mattvenn.net/ ].

They found a few old floppy disc drives lying around and thought they could find a use for them. They went on to name their new project the ‘floppy drawbot’ – a spirograph-like machine that creates patterns on discs of paper – and shared a how-to on the instructables website: http://www.instructables.com/id/floppy-drawbot/

We like the instructables website a lot, there’s some fab projects on there and a lovely way to share ideas, well worth a look.
